Gary’s family moved home last month. His new home is on Green Street. It’s a busy street. There are many shops near his new home. There’s a post office and a flower shop beside his home. The flower shop is very big. His mother likes going there. She is buying some flowers in the shop now. Near the flower shop, there is a library. It’s Gary’s favourite place. Gary likes reading very much and he always goes there to read books on Saturday afternoon. There is a park near Gary’s new home too. It’s a good place for Gary’s grandparents. They often go there to take a walk and meet other old people.

When you are in the UK, you must be careful in the streets because the traffic(车辆) drives on the left. Before you cross a street, you must look to the right first and then to the left. In the morning and in the evening when people go to work or come home from work, the streets are very busy. It is the most dangerous then.

When you take a bus in the UK, you have to be careful too. Always remember the traffic moves on the left. Have a look first, or you may go the wrong way.

In many cities of the UK, there are big buses with two floors. You can sit on the second floor. From there you can see the city very well. It’s interesting.

There are many apple trees in a garden. They’re good friends. One day an old tree is ill. There are many pests in the tree. Leaves of the tree turn yellow. The old tree feels very sad and unwell. Other trees sends for a doctor for him. At first, they send for a pigeon, but she has no idea about it. Then they send for an oriole(黄鹂), and she can’t treat the old tree well either. Then they send for a woodpecker. She is a good doctor. She pecks a hole in the tree and eats lots of pests. At last the old tree becomes better and better. Leaves turn green and green.

With the improvement of our living standard, more and more people can afford cars. However, the smoke from the cars makes the air dirty. Air pollution has become a serious problem around the world. That’s very dangerous for us and animals.

We should do something to make the air clean again. But what can we do? We can do some small things in our daily life. For example, we can go to school by bike or on foot. That can reduce the smoke. Trees can clean the air. So we should plant more trees and stop cutting down so many trees. Why not have a try?

Wood has many uses. It is a very important kind of building material. Wood can be made into desks, chairs, beds and many other things. Paper is made from wood too.

Only trees can provide enough wood. Trees can provide us with oxygen (氧气) and make the air fresh. In hot summer, trees give us shade (阴凉处；树荫) and make our surroundings more beautiful. What’s more, trees can stop soil (土壤) from being washed away by heavy rain. Since trees are so important to us, we should plant more trees. At the same time, many effective measures (有效措施) should be taken to protect forests and prevent trees from being cut down.

Some factories will do harm to our human beings’ life and the environment. They will pollute the air, and some will pollute the water. That is why we cannot see any fish in many rivers in the city. Some rivers have black colour and pungent (刺鼻的) smell. And usually the air around rivers is not so clean. What’s more, the polluted water will make people and animals sick. So the environment is very important to us. We should try our best to protect it.

Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, a cartoon film based on a popular Chinese cartoon TV series, won the hearts of children in China.

The Chinese cartoon began to show in public on 16th January, 2009 (the first day of the winter holiday for Chinese primary school students). The children seemed to go straight to the cinema.

Two weeks after its release (首次上映), the cartoon film got a box-office income (票房收入) of 68 million yuan more than that of Madagascar 2 (《马达加斯加2》), which was released in China on January 1, 2009.

“I think it is more interesting than Madagascar 2,” said 8-year-old Wang Lu who saw both Chinese and American cartoon films.

However some parents didn’t enjoy Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf so much. “It’s so childish that I almost fell asleep in the cinema,” Wang Lu’s father said.

But primary school children’s great interest has brought the great box office. Parents join their children in the cinema—buying two or three tickets to keep them company (陪伴).

Run Away From Fire

If there is a big fire in your flat, what should you do? What mustn't you do?

Make a towel(毛巾)wet and cover your mouth with it. Make your clothes wet with water. Try to get out of the house at once(立刻). Don't take too many things with you. Don't come back for your money or other things. Don't take the lift(电梯) when you get out of your flat. Walk down the stairs. If your clothes catch fire, don't run. Roll(滚)on the ground to make the fire die down(熄灭). If there is a lot of smoke, crawl(爬行)on the ground. Smoke is always high in the air. If your flat is on a tall building, don't jump down. Stay by the window and people may come to help you soon.
