Linda is an eleven-year old girl. She is from Australia. She has a brother called Mike who is four years old. Linda’s father, Mr Brown, works in a big shop in Shanghai, and Linda’s mother stays at home to take care of the children.

Today, everyone in Linda’s family is at home. Mr Brown is sitting in the sofa. He is reading newspaper. Mrs Brown is outside watering the flowers. Mike is in his room playing with the cat, and Linda is cleaning her new bike. What a happy family!

The Weather in Britain

In Britain, winter is not very cold and summer is not very hot. There is not a great difference between summer and winter. Why is this?

Britain has a mild winter and a cool summer because it is an island country. In summer the sea is cool. The winds from the sea bring cool air to Britain.

The western winds blow over Britain all year round. They blow from the southwest, and they are wet winds. They bring rain to Britain throughout the year. Britain has a lot of rain all year round.

The four seasons are each three months long. Winter is in December, January and February. Spring is in March, April and May. Summer is in June, July and August. Autumn is in September, October and November.

Tom is my little brother. He is six years old now. He has big eyes and a small mouth. He is short. He wants to be a writer. He often borrows books from me.

One day, he is ill. My mother takes him to the hospital. The doctor asks the nurse to give him an injection（打针）. Tom cries for a long time. “Dear son, don’t cry. You will feel better after a while,” my mother says. When my mother gives money to the nurse, Tom says angrily, “No. She made me cry. She should give me some money!”

My mother works in a bookstore, and she usually goes to work by bus. She likes singing but stays quiet at work. My aunt works in a university. She teaches Chinese. My uncle is a postman. He likes playing football and he is very strong. I am a student. I like playing football, too. My uncle often plays football with me. We are a big happy family.

Playing sports is a great way to stay happy, healthy and make new friends. Sports help us stay active and is one of the best hobbies you can have. That is why I love playing sports, and that is why my favourite sport is table tennis.

Table tennis is a great sport to play because we use our bodies and our minds to play the game, so we strengthen both our muscles and our brain! It is also a lot of fun and does not cost a lot of money to play, so it is a great sport for everyone. Table tennis can be played indoors or outdoors, so it can be played even on rainy days.
