I was in the ninth grade when I began to suffer depression（精神忧郁）. My parents noticed but felt that since I'd always been 【小题1】 good child, this was temporary（暂时的）.

【小题2】（unfortunate）, it was not to be so. I didn't have friends. Hardly could I share my problems. Deep worry began to destroy my 【小题3】（confident）. Finally I refused to attend classes, 【小题4】（shut）myself in my room for hours.

The examination was coming near, but I simply didn't care. My parents and teachers were 【小题5】（surprise）at my bad performance. One morning, 【小题6】 a particularly severe lecture from my father, I stood at the school gate, sad. Then as the other students went to their classrooms, our headmaster called me. The next forty-five minutes was one of the 【小题7】（wonderful）moments in my life. She said she 【小题8】（notice）a big change in me and wondered why.

At first she took my hands in 【小题9】（she）and listened patiently as I mentioned my worries. Then she hugged me as I wept. Months of frustration and loneliness disappeared.

No one had tried to understand what the real problem was except the headmaster, 【小题10】 helped me out simply by listening and hugging.

Ariana caught another whiff(难闻的味道) and tried to hold her breath. She moved away slightly, but Ashley only moved closer and continued talking. Ariana felt trapped. She wanted badly to tell Ashley that she didn't smell very good. But how could she do that without hurting her feelings? Instead, she gathered the remains of her lunch to throw in the trash, thankful for the excuse to get some fresh air. She looked back to see Ashley eating quietly. Ashley's hair was tangled(乱糟糟的) , and her clothes were dirty. Ariana forced herself to go back to the table and take her seat, vowing(发誓) that she would not sit with Ashley tomorrow.

When Ariana got home from school, she complained to her mother, ''There's a girl named Ashley who likes to sit next to me in school, but she smells bad. ''

''She's probably having a tough day, '' said her mother.

''No, it's not just one day. She smells bad a lot, '' Ariana explained. ''Nobody else likes to sit next to her, either. ''

''I don't think you understand Ashley's situation, so let me ask you this..., '' Her mother's tone was serious. ''Who makes sure that your hair is combed every morning so you'll look nice when you go to school? ''

''You do, '' answered Ariana.

''Who makes sure you're bathed and cleaned every day? And your clothes are washed and neatly ironed? ''

''You and Daddy, '' Ariana said again.

''Do you live in a nice home? Do you have enough to eat? ''

Ariana nodded, beginning to feel guilty. She was starting to understand now. Ashley couldn’t help her situation because she was only seven years old—the same age as Ariana. Grown-ups are supposed to take care of kids.

''Why doesn't her family take better care of her? '' Ariana asked.

''Not all children live in the best situation, '' her mother said. ''The best thing you can do for Ashley is to treat her with kindness and sympathy. ''

I’m awfully sorry to hear horrible and serious earthquake unexpectedly hit your hometown. Faced with such a terrible disaster, you remained so calm and strong-willed that we are all moved to tear. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Think about your present situation, we cannot wait for a minute to make every bit of our effort to help you. I, as chairman of the Students’ Union, on behalf of (代表) all your schoolmates, express our most sincerely pity and care for you. Beside, we have collected 120,000 yuan to you, expecting that it can help you go through the difficulty and that a better hometown can be rebuilding. As the saying goes, "Friendship is like sunshine keeps us warm and helps us grow." I think it is important for us to making good friends so that we can always have a fun. I like to choose people who are kind, honesty and helpful as my friends. I like to share my thoughts and fears about them whenever I get into trouble.
