Mikell Brown lives in New York and works at home. As a mother of two little girls, she spends much of the day taking care of her children. But she also teaches English to children in China from her computer. Brown has worked for online English-learning app VIPKID for one year.

In an online class of VIPKID, children can talk in English with native speaker teachersfrom America face-to-face quite well. Even if the children are born to speak Cantonese or Mandarin (普通话), they have no difficulty communicating with the teachers. The online education market in China is growing every year. More than half of Chinese parents have bought online classes for their children.

Yao Shuwen, CEO of DADA, another online English-learning company explains the reasons why China's online education market is growing fast. “First of all, more parents want their children to grow up with a global vision (视野). Secondly, parents are spending more on children's education. Besides, more people are accepting online products. Last, the second-child policy (政策) also helps to the growth of the market.”

Nowadays, one popular mobile app for online education is Zuoyebang. It helps junior high school students with their homework. But a new area in online education is now getting more popular, science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). By 2020, around 50 million parents plan to send their children to learn from the online apps like VIPCODE.
