Wu Dajing won China's first gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. He broke world record in men's 500m short-track speed skating (短道速滑) on 22 February.
World No. 1 Wu proved his ability in the event. He broke the world record twice. The young man won the gold medal with a time of 39.584 seconds. It raised our spirits. His performance was so perfect that even the other athletes showed respect for him.
"I carried a lot of pressure into the final today after what we went through previously. I am just so proud of myself to bring out myself best in the race." said Wu. He won a silver medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia. "I really want to say 'Thank you' to my teacher. I just followed what she had told me before the final. I will still work hard and do better in the following races."
Later, Wu and his teammates added another silver medal in the men's 5,000m team relay, bringing the Chinese delegation its ninth overall medal in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
Wu Dajing was born in Jiamusi in the north of China in 1994. He started short-track training at the age of 10. He used to train in Jiangsu and Jilin. He has become the most competitive athlete in the world and the hope for China.
