    文学衰败缘于文学自身的蜕变。建立在平面印刷和二维阅读上的传统文学注定要走向衰败。它是新媒体时代所要摧毁的主要对象。尽管当前文坛充满垃圾，但文学本身不是垃圾，它是飘荡于人类精神空间的伟大幽灵，寻找着安身立命的寄主。历史上，文学至少两度选择了人的身体作为寄主。第一次，文学利用了人的舌头及其语音，由此诞生了“口头文学”（听觉的文学）；第二次，文学握住了人手，由此展开平面书写、印刷及其阅读，催生了“书面文学”（文字的文学）。这两种文学都向我们提供了大量杰出的文本。

    现在，文学已离开这种二维书写的寄主，进入多媒体空间。这是文学幽灵的第三次迁居，它要从那里重获年轻的生命。这场寄主的变迁，无非就是文学对媒体的重新选择。它起源于电影，即起源于视觉和图像的叙事。《魔戒》无疑是新媒体文学的杰作，它超越文学原著的水准，成为影像史诗。越过银幕和音响系统，不难看到濒临死亡的传统文学幽灵，在多维媒体的躯壳里获得了重生。

    进入新媒体寄主的文学，直接触摸身体，以构筑精细的感官王国。此外还有当下流行的网络游戏，小说在那里演进成一种互动的数码艺术，成了历史上最具吸引力的符号活动。新媒体文学还化身为手机短信，以简洁幽默的字词，批评现实，显示了话语反讽的意识力量。

文学已经“蝶化”，进化为瑰丽的“物种”。不要为它的“旧茧”而感伤，要重新评估文学的自我转型，修正美学偏见，对文学做出全新的定义。否则，我们就只能跟旧文学一起死掉。
