    文学衰败缘于文学自身的蜕变。建立在平面印刷和二维阅读上的传统文学注定要走向衰败。它是新媒体时代所要摧毁的主要对象。尽管当前文坛充满垃圾,但文学本身不是垃圾,它是飘荡于人类精神空间的伟大幽灵,寻找着安身立命的寄主。历史上,文学至少两度选择了人的身体作为寄主。第一次,文学利用了人的舌头及其语音,由此诞生了“口头文学”(听觉的文学);第二次,文学握住了人手,由此展开平面书写、印刷及其阅读,催生了“书面文学”(文字的文学)。这两种文学都向我们提供了大量杰出的文本。

    现在,文学已离开这种二维书写的寄主,进入多媒体空间。这是文学幽灵的第三次迁居,它要从那里重获年轻的生命。这场寄主的变迁,无非就是文学对媒体的重新选择。它起源于电影,即起源于视觉和图像的叙事。《魔戒》无疑是新媒体文学的杰作,它超越文学原著的水准,成为影像史诗。越过银幕和音响系统,不难看到濒临死亡的传统文学幽灵,在多维媒体的躯壳里获得了重生。

    进入新媒体寄主的文学,直接触摸身体,以构筑精细的感官王国。此外还有当下流行的网络游戏,小说在那里演进成一种互动的数码艺术,成了历史上最具吸引力的符号活动。新媒体文学还化身为手机短信,以简洁幽默的字词,批评现实,显示了话语反讽的意识力量。

文学已经“蝶化”,进化为瑰丽的“物种”。不要为它的“旧茧”而感伤,要重新评估文学的自我转型,修正美学偏见,对文学做出全新的定义。否则,我们就只能跟旧文学一起死掉。
