摸叶子

    ①船的螺旋桨,被渔民称为叶子。摸叶子,是指清理缠在叶片上的杂物。船行驶时,高速旋转的螺旋桨常常被破渔网、海藻等杂物缠住,导致发动机熄火。于是就需要一水性好、身体壮、扛得住风浪侵袭、挡得住寒风肆虐的人,口衔尖刀,跳入海中,潜到水下,摸到叶子,割开缠绕的杂草断绳。在洋上摸叶子很凶险,因为有洋流暗潮,加上风大浪急,摸叶子的人很容易被潮流卷走,也容易被潮水挟持着,缠在叶子的破渔网、海藻里,一旦挣脱不开,就再也浮不上来了。

    ②我第一次见到哥摸叶子,是在一个天寒地冻的冬日傍晚,厚密的雪粒在海岛凛冽的风中,变成锋利的飞刀,割得脸庞生疼。放学路上,我不小心滑倒了,手掌被一块碎玻璃划破了。回到家,哥用热水给我清洗伤口,还到门口扯了几片草药叶,嚼了嚼,敷在上面,又用手帕包好,然后舀热水给我泡脚。哥帮我按摩着长冻疮的脚,他粗糙的掌心抚过我的脚底,痒得我咯咯直笑。爹去世后,我很少笑了。

    ③这时忽然有人在门口喊哥,让哥去摸叶子。哥边帮我擦脚,边应了声“好”,转身拿起父亲的旧棉袄,跟着那人去了。娘收工回来,听说哥又去摸叶子了,叹了一声:“作孽哟,这大冷的下雪天!”娘顾不上吃饭,忙着煮好姜汤盛在搪瓷杯里。娘用毛巾把它层层包好,又摘下头上的围巾紧紧裹上,匆匆出门。“我也要去!”我拉住娘的衣襟。娘看着我,欲言又止,顿了顿,说:“走吧。”

    ④天暗下来,风更急了,呼呼的风声,带着响哨,雪更密了,没头没脑地打在脸上,疼极了。娘一手拢着我,一手搂着那个包得严实的口杯,顶着寒风往码头去。

    ⑤码头上的人,看到我们,不待娘问,便指了指离岸不远的一艘渔船。不远处,一只小舢板摇过来载着娘和我靠上渔船后尾,娘趴在小舢板上,大声喊道:“程啊,上来喝口姜汤吧!”喊了好一会儿,水面漾开一圈圈涟漪,哥的头冒出来,嘴里衔着一把白晃晃的尖刀,脸冻成青紫色,嘴唇灰白。哥游过来,靠在船边,把刀子递给娘,就着娘的手,喝了一口姜汤,冲我笑了一笑。娘柔声说:“再喝点,娒伢(闽南语,小宝贝的意思)。”娘的眼里闪着泪花,声音也哽咽了。我看着整个身体还在海水里泡着的哥,心里像堵了块石头,慌慌的,想哭,却不敢哭。哥对娘说:“没事,就好了,不用等我,这么冷,带妹妹先回去吧。”说着,接过刀子,游回刚才冒头的地方,消失在海面上,海面只剩下一个个起伏不定的波浪,像狰狞的兽,一圈圈打着转,仿佛在吞噬猎物。娘搂着我,紧紧地,生怕我丢了似的,眼睛紧盯着哥消失的海面,嘴里不停地轻唤着“娒伢娒伢”。

    ⑥摇舢板的大爷坐在船尾吸着旱烟,嘴里嘟囔着:“造孽哟,造孽哟!”哥冒了几次头,又几次消失,终于,哥又从水下冒出来,双手僵硬地划着水,缓慢地向我们游来。娘放开我,扑到船边,尽可能地把手伸向哥,哥把手搭在娘的手上,娘拼尽全力把完全脱力的哥拉上舢板。渔船上的人把哥的衣裳扔过来,娘拣出爹的旧棉袄,披在哥的身上,又解开自己的棉衣,把浑身发抖的哥搂进怀里,示意我把姜汤端给哥喝。姜汤送到哥唇边,哥好像连喝姜汤的力气都没有了,姜汤含在口中,老半天吞不下去。好久好久,哥才喝完了姜汤,我端着瓷杯的手冻麻了,杯子咣当一声掉在船板上。我用双手包住哥的手,送到唇边,使劲地哈气,哥的手冰得像冰棍,让人本能地想弹开,却又本能地想紧紧地包住。

    ⑦摇舢板的大爷把我们送回岸边,对娘说:“艮嫂,别让孩子做这个了,太受罪了,小小年纪,落下病可不是玩的。”娘已说不出话来,点点头,又点点头,泪,流了下来。

    ⑧因为娘不同意哥去做这么危险的活,哥每次都偷偷地去,每次疲惫不堪地回家,娘就边哭骂哥不听话,边把他紧紧地抱在怀里,默默流泪,让我烧姜汤,拿火盆子,为哥搓手脚,直到哥不再浑身打哆嗦。

    ⑨就靠着哥的“不听话”,家里的日子才过得下去,娘的病才有钱治,我也才能坐在书桌前,没有跟那些贫困家庭的女孩一样,早早去打工,早早就嫁人。哥身上伤痕累累,他小小年纪,就患了极严重的风湿病,每到阴天,就痛得吃不下饭、睡不着觉。

    ⑩因为哥,一听到“摸叶子”三个字,我就条件反射似的打哆嗦,手指上、膝盖里好像有无数针尖在扎,心中有一股子寒气嗞嗞而出。
