    刘瞻之先^②，寒士也。十许岁，在郑絪左右主笔砚。十八九，絪为御史，巡荆部商山^③，歇马亭，俯瞰山水。时雨霁，岩峦奇秀，泉石甚佳。絪坐久，起行五六里。曰：“此胜概^④，不能吟咏，必晚何妨？”却返于亭，欲题诗。顾见一绝，染翰尚湿。絪大讶其佳绝。 时南北无行人左右曰但刘景在后行二三里。公戏之曰：“莫是尔否？”景拜曰：“实见侍御吟赏起^⑤予，辄有寓题。”引咎又拜。公咨嗟久之而去。比回京阙，戒子弟涵、瀚已下曰：“刘景他日有奇才，文学必超异。自此可令与汝共处于学院，寝馔^⑥一切，无异尔辈。吾亦不复指使。”至三数年，所成文章，皆辞理优壮。凡再举成名，公召辟法寺学省清级。
