        ①古希腊哲学家伊壁鸠鲁有一句名言：“认识错误是拯救自己的第一步。”古罗马哲人塞涅卡对它的解读是：一个人要是尚未认识到自己在做错事，他是不会有改正错误的愿望的；在改正错误以前，你得发现和承认自己犯了错误。惟有如此，及时反省，我们才能将自己从过失和失败中拯救出来。我国古代的思想家曾子也说“吾日三省吾身”。看来，这些先哲们早已将自省当作一种自觉的行为了，他们所推崇的“自省意识”，千百年来一直作为精神财富施惠于人类。
        ②可是，在这个日渐浮躁的时代，我们面临着这样的尴尬：一方面是物质生活的高度富裕，另一方面却是精神世界的极度贫穷——自省意识的缺失便是明证。【甲】每当我们惹了麻烦，做了错事，伤害了他人，我们首先想到的不是主动承认错误而是如何逃避责任；每当我们遇到考试失利，求职碰壁，壮志难酬等困境时，我们最先想到的不是自身努力的不足，实力的欠缺，能力的差距，而是习惯在悲伤、沮丧、悒郁、愤懑的同时，将自身的过失和失利的原因归咎于他人的干预和外在的环境，却缺乏对自身灵魂的拷问，缺乏深沉的自省。于是，我们对心灵的防护能力和对神经的调控能力，越来越差，陷于困境的我们往往要在痛苦的深渊里艰难地挣扎，却难以及时觅到逃离苦难的出口和冲击成功的出路。
        ③缺乏自省可怕，不正确的自省同样可怕。有些人一旦陷于失败或遭受打击，惟有自怨自艾，强吞下失利的苦果，从此一蹶不振。还有些人又走到了另一个极端，将自省意识等同于严苛的自责，他们对自己求全责备，这只能助长自卑的心理，不仅于事无补，还会加深内心的苦痛。
　    ④自省既不等同于自怨自艾，也不是求全责备，它是精神层面上的反省，是对灵魂的追问。【乙】自省的前提是承认过失，即知其“失”，同时要知其所以“失”，进而在行动中纠其“失”。自省不是外在的强加，而应该像吃饭睡觉那样成为我们自觉的行为。
       ⑤具备了自省精神的人和民族注定是强大的、不可战胜的。
