    Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation?

    UBC Professor Simard explains how trees are much more complex than most of us ever imagined. Although Charles Darwin thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard shows just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their cooperation and support, passing around necessary nutrition “depending on who needs it”.

    Nitrogen (氮) and carbon are shared through miles of underground fungi (真菌) networks, making sure that all trees in the forest ecological system give and receive just the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons (神经元) in our brains, and when one tree is destroyed, it affects all.
     Simard talks about “mother trees”, usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down “mother trees” with no awareness of these highly complex “tree societies” or the networks on which they feed, we are reducing the chances of survival for the entire forest
   “We didn't take any notice of it.” Simard says sadly. “Dying trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them chance.” If we could put across the message to the forestry industry, we could make a huge difference towards our environmental protection efforts for the future.

    田庄村十字街头是个热闹场所。村里人好在那里议论家事、国事、天下事，还好在那里张贴各种启事，广而告之。

    信息时代，乡下人也懂得传递信息的重要性了！

    这天早晨，红艳艳的太阳升起来时，一张红艳艳的启事也在那里贴了出来。村里人好事儿，不管下地的还是回村的还是担水洗衣碾米磨面买油盐酱醋的，都一齐立在那里，争相观看那张启事。

    其实那是一则寻狗启事。那启事写道：各位乡亲、各位亲朋好友：

    因我们小夫妻两个一时疏忽大意，走失了家里养着的小狗“亲亲”。“亲亲”是一只京巴狗，憨态可掬，玲珑可爱，浑身皮毛如雪，唯脑门处染有一片红色，我们戏称为万“白” 丛中一点红。“亲亲”悟性极高，很有感情，很有礼貌，能给我们叩头作揖敬礼，还能对我们喊爸喊妈，十分乖巧伶俐。“亲亲” 嘴馋，非鸡鸭鱼肉不吃，非鲜奶果汁不喝……自“亲亲” 五天前丢失后，我们夫妻两个吃饭不香，睡觉不甜，整日惶惶然怅怅然；焦头烂额中已是重病在身，眼见灯干油尽奄奄一息。务请各位乡亲伸出友谊之手，搭救我们于水深火热之中！
