珠母沙洲遇险

       珠母沙洲,一片澄净。

       我们像真正闲逛的人那样彼此离得很远地走着,谁愿意停谁就停下来。我呢,也已经不再担心,危险被我的想象力可笑地夸大了。

       十分钟后,他突然停下。我以为他是停下来往回走呢,完全不是这么回事。他打个手势,命令我们藏在他身旁一个很大的洼坑里。他手指着水里的一个点,我注意地看了看。

       那是一个人,一个大活人,可能是个印度人,也许是个黑人,总之是个不幸的采珠人,不到季节就来采珠了。他跪在地上,摸着珠母就往袋子里装,然后浮上去,再下来。那采珠人没看见我们,岩石的阴影把我们遮住了。

       就在这时,突然之间,在那印度人跪在地上的时候,我看到他做了个受到惊吓的动作,站起来就往水面上蹿。我知道他为什么害怕了,一个巨大的阴影出现在那个不幸的采珠人上方。这是一条大个儿鲨鱼,斜着就扑过来了,眼睛里冒着火,嘴巴大张着!

       我吓得说不出话,动弹不得。

       凶猛的鲨鱼晃动一下有力的尾鳍,径直向那印度人扑去;那印度人往旁边一闪,没让鲨鱼咬着,但没能躲过鲨鱼尾巴;他被鲨鱼尾巴当胸扫了个正着,倒在地上。

       这个场面也就持续了几秒钟,鲨鱼游回来,翻了个身,准备把那印度人咬成两段。说时迟那时快,我觉得蹲在我身边的他噌地站起来,拿着匕首径直朝大鲨鱼冲去,和鲨鱼进行肉搏。

       大鲨鱼正要咬不幸的采珠人时,发现这个新对手,于是又翻身过去,迅速朝对手扑去。他俯下身去,以令人赞叹的沉着和冷静,等着那可怕的鲨鱼;鲨鱼扑过来,船长灵巧地一闪,躲过冲击,却把匕首插进鲨鱼肚子。鲨鱼吼了起来!血从它的伤口突突往外冒,海水颜色渐渐变红。他紧紧抓住鲨鱼的一个鳍,接着一刀一刀往它肚子上戳,但一直没能给它致命一击。鲨鱼挣扎着,怒气冲冲地搅动着海水,搅起来的漩涡差点儿把我冲到。

       我真想过去助他一臂之力,可是我像被恐惧钉在了那里一样,一步也迈不动。

       斗争形式发生了变化,船长倒在了地上,他是被压在身上的大鲨鱼打翻在地的。接着,鲨鱼张开像一台剪切机似的血盆大口,向他咬去,要不是手持______的尼德·兰像闪电似得冲向鲨鱼,刺中鲨鱼的要害,他就完了。

       鲨鱼心脏被击中,奄奄一息。他与印度人都得救了。
