We had a geography lesson about the Sahara in last week. It's a large desert，the world largest，in fact. It is near equal to the United States in size and cover more than 9 million square kilometers. It is more than 4，600 kilometers from east to west but 1，600 kilometers from north to south. The Sahara has a very dry climate. An average annual rainfall is not even 10 centimeters，and worse still，many areas received less than 2 centimeters per year. There is few surface water in the Sahara.
