Driving to the airport in the early morning, I felt excited. Although I was heading abroad for my first time alone, I felt cheerful and enthusiastic. I was spending the summer in Paris.

   China may be the world’s largest market for e-bikes, but Europe is fast catching up. The EU’s official statistics agency says the figure reached the one million mark two years ago, and sales have sharply increased since then.

When running errands（差事）around Berlin, Lutz, who usually works by horse, uses the company’s new e-bike that is charged easily and has a range of 140 kilometers. “We found there was no parking spot problem or other worries. And on top of all these, we don’t pollute the environment. Petrol is also saved,” said Lutz Baddack, owner of Reitsport Baddack.

Unlike many other parts of the world, the EU does not require registration（登记）of e-bikes. Nearly half a million are expected to be sold in Germany this year, in all shapes and sizes. “It’s not just bike fans buying them. People who usually drive cars also use them occasionally,” said Stefan Gelbhaar.

Businessmen say the elderly are also big customers. The sales of ordinary bicycles fell in Germany last year, but the sales of e-bikes rose by 8 percent. Sales figures are expected to keep going up. “In five years we will have the market share of 20 percent, or maybe more,” said Marcus Kendler, owner of E-Motion. In the hillier parts, that figure has already been beyond it.

The sales of e-bikes in Germany have been much larger than those in any other country in Europe. But other countries are fast catching up. In Europe, with the various brands at the market and falling prices, e-bikes are here to stay and not just a repeated trend.

   Thousands of Burbank students biked to school on Wednesday morning and the children at Community Day School were not going to miss out on the event.

With the help from two local bicycle enthusiast groups，the campus' 25 middle and high school students were able to pedal（骑）down the bikeway for a 10-mile morning bike ride.

Krohn, headmaster of the school，considered having her students participate in Walk/Bike to School Day. But when she found most of her students had no bicycles, she connected the Bike Angels, who donate （捐赠）bicycles to children in Burbank during the holidays.

“The bikes that the Bike Angels get are donated, but so many of them are broken,” said Ernie, one of Krohn's teachers, an eager cyclist with some knowledge of bike repairs. “So we made judgements about what needed to be done. ”

As word spread about their efforts, a member from the WalkBike volunteered to help Ernie, and some students also stepped up to help repair the bikes in time for the event.

One of Ernie's students, 16-year-old Jacob, volunteered on Saturdays to help fix bicycles for his classmates. “I had a bike with a broken tire that I wanted to use to come to school. I asked my teacher if he could help me fix bikes, he taught me everything, and later I started volunteering there. I just started loving fixing bikes. ” He added that he planned to continue volunteering with the Bike Angels to repair bicycles for the community.

   With an improved economy，many travelers have been buying first or business class seats，leaving fewer for upgrades（升级）.Here are some strategies for getting a free upgrade.

1. Fly a lot.

This is the most common way to earn a free upgrade. Most airlines reserve some spaces for travelers who fly at least 5，000 miles per year.
