A start-up company in California, called Zume, is testing machines that make pizza. The robot takes and shapes dough to create the base of the pizza. It then adds tomato sauce, cheese, meat or other toppings. Next, the robot places the uncooked pizza into a hot oven. A few minutes later, the pizza is ready. The pizza comes out the same each time. Zume says the robots work quickly and do not get sick. The robots do not get paid either.

Julia Collins is the company’s founder and chief executive officer (CEO) . Her business can spend money on better food products because it does not have to pay the robots. Zume is using robots to make pizza.

Charity Suzuki has bought the robot-made pizza. She likes its taste. “It’s delicious. It’s always hot and fresh when it comes. I mean it’s great that they’re making it, but I can’t tell the difference that it’s made by a robot versus a human.”

Other companies say they are developing robots so people can get higher quality food faster. But what about the jobs the robots are taking from humans?

Ken Goldberg is a professor at the University of California in Berkeley. He also directs the school’s automation laboratory. Goldberg says researchers have been working with robots for 50 years. He says that, while there has been progress, the jobs are not going to disappear right away. “I want to reassure (使放心) restaurant workers that the skills that they have are still going to be of value,” Goldberg said.

“We’re going to get rid of boring, repetitive, dangerous jobs and we’re going to free up people to do things that have higher value. There’s going to be amazing new ways of working that don’t exist yet but are going to be created.”

   George Orwell is one of the UK’s best-known 20th century authors but he’s also claimed by Motihari, a town in north-eastern India, where Orwell spent the first year of his life, before he and his mother moved to Henley, England.

More than a century after the Orwells left, the shabby bungalow (平房) is being turned into a museum. The four families who have been living here are in the process of moving out. Among them is Aditya Abhishek. “That’s something I share with George Orwell,” he tells me. “We were both born in the same house, but he became famous, and I didn’t.” He is sad to say, “I have so many memories associated with this bungalow.”

As very few people here understand English, it’s perhaps no surprise that few know much about George Orwell. Motihari has no bookshop selling anything other than school and college textbooks. You cannot easily lay your hands on any of Orwell’s books here.

“Today, scholars have to travel to London for research on Orwell, but once the museum is developed, they can carry out their research at his birthplace,” says cloth merchant Debripya Mukherjee.

He and his friends are in touch with Orwell’s son, Richard Blair, who may help them get copies of the collection of original manuscripts (手稿), pictures and so on held by the George Orwell Archive at University College London (UCL) . The local government is planning to spend $ 150,000 on the project. “We’re fortunate that a writer like George Orwell was born here,” says Mukherjee. “So, it’s our duty to preserve this bungalow and make it presentable.”

When I first went to the volleyball training, I found out that my coach was seventy years old. 【小题2】 When she was seventy-three, she still warmed up with us and ran the five-kilometer cross-country races in the sports camp. I’ve never seen her being desperate, exhausted or complaining about something. In addition to this, she also has a great sense of humor and a modern world view. She is an absolutely amazing human being and a great role model. 【小题3】

The coach taught me to control my emotions. She always reminded me that I should never give up and that I needed to believe in myself. She showed that I should take advantage of any opportunity, never be nervous in difficult situations and take it easy. 【小题4】 This wonderful woman has taught us to work as a team and developed a sense of responsibility for our actions in us.

I’m thankful for everything she has taught me. Under her instructions, I became a part of a team which has won a lot of competitions. 【小题5】 She has made a great influence on the formation of my personality and character. Also she has taught me to love volleyball.

I’m still trying to come to her training classes and help her with everything that I can do. Knowing her has been one of the most wonderful parts of my life.
