Summer vacation(假期) in the USA usually comes in July or August. It is the best time for many people to have a rest and travel.

Some people like to stay at home during the vacation.  They work in the garden, read books or watch TV. If they live near the sea, they often go to the seaside. There they can fish, swim and enjoy the sun.

Many Americans like meeting friends from other countries. Some people have enough time and money to travel to other countries. These countries have many famous buildings, stores,  mountains, beautiful valleys (山谷) and other places of interest for tourists.

   American schools begin in September after a long summer.  There are two terms in a school year.  The first term is from September to January, and the second is from February to June. Most American children begin to go to school when they are five years old. Most students are 17 or 18 years old when they finish high school.

High school students take only four or five subjects each term. After class they do many interesting things. After high school, many students go to college (大学). They can go to a small one or a large one. They usually have to pay a lot of money. So many students work after class to get money for their studies.

   In a supermarket, Charlie Brown noticed _______ following him around. He went to the checkout line, and she got _______ him.

Then he saw that his total was $ 127. 50.  "How can that be? I only bought a few things. " "Your mother said that you would pay for her," said the clerk.

I'm having a great time in Hong Kong. It's a great place to visit and I'm l_______ to be here for my six-month English course. Some other students are learning J________. What languages would you like to learn?

There's just so much to see and do here. Last night I went to a Chinese musical concert.  Most of my f_______ like loud music that they can dance to. I prefer quiet, traditional music, so the concert suited me very w______. What kind of music do you like?

Before the concert we went to a restaurant for Italian food. Do you like it? There are lots of  d_________kinds of food here. I don't know what to try next. What kind of food do you prefer?

   I have a good foreign friend called Jack.  He comes from England. One year ago, he came to China with his parents. We are in the same class and he sits next to me. We always help each other. He helps me with my English, and I help him study Chinese. His favourite season is summer. He loves to swim in the river and sit in the sun.  But he dislikes winter because it's too cold. He hates loud people and he likes reading books quietly.  He loves Chinese food very much. He thinks Chinese food is as good as western food.

He is kind to everyone, so he gets on well with our classmates.  He never feels lonely in the school. He says that he likes everything in China.
