People eat different things in different parts of the world. In some eastern countries, people like to eat rice as their main food.  Sometimes they eat it twice or three times a day, breakfast, lunch and supper. They usually eat it with meat, fish and vegetables.

The Japanese people eat a lot of fish, and they also eat a lot of rice.  So they make different kinds of seafood sushi.

In some western countries such as Britain and Australia, the most important food is bread or potatoes. People there cook potatoes in different ways. Some people only eat fruit and vegetables. They don't eat meat or fish or anything that comes from animals but from plants. This kind of people are called vegetarians. They think it is healthier for them to eat vegetables than meat.

   It is six o'clock in the evening.  We are all ______.  My mum is a Chinese teacher.  She works very hard.  But now she is cooking the _______.  My dad has just arrived home.  He is a businessman. He ______has a lot of things to do every day. At home, he sometimes helps mum do the housework. Now, he is ready to help mum ______the vegetables.    In England winter is not very cold and summer is not very hot.  Why is this?

England is an island country. In winter the sea brings warm air to England. In summer the sea is cooler than the land. The winds from the sea bring cool air to England.

The winds blow over England all the year. They blow from the southwest. They bring rain to England all the year. England has a lot of rain all the year. There is more rain in the west of England than in the east of England.

In England four seasons are all three months long. Winter is in December, January and February.  Spring is in March, April and May.  Summer is in June, July and August. Autumn is in September, October and November.
