Beatboxing is the art of making rhythm(节奏) and musical sounds with one’s mouth and voice. It is also a good way to help kids who are suffering from cancer(癌症).

Justin Sanchez is a student at Sugar Land’s Logos Preparatory Academy, US. He is called MC Cure-Rageous. Beatboxing was only a hobby at first, as Sanchez loves rhythm and sound. But now he uses it to help kids to deal with cancer and make them happy.

It all started when Sanchez took part in a fundraising (筹款) activity for his classmate who got cancer. Everybody was shocked (震惊的) when they first heard his musical sounds. Host of the event, the L3 Foundation(基金会), came to Sanchez at that time. They asked if he’d like to be part of the fundraiser. Therefore, the teenager thought he could use his hobby for good.

With the help of the L3 Foundation, Sanchez held a successful beatboxing activity for Candlelighters. This is a childhood family cancer center. The kids there were very happy to listen to Sanchez perform.

   For most teenagers, the kitchen may be a mysterious(神秘的) place. But Flynn McGarry is already able to take charge of(掌管) a kitchen.

At the age of 15, he was already a well-known teenage chef in the US. He has opened his own dining club at home and works with some of the best restaurants in his country.

McGarry’s love for cooking started at the age of 10. He practiced his knife skills after school and taught himself from books and the Internet. In his room, there are no video games, basketballs or movie posters, but pots, cutting boards and pans(平底锅).

When he was 11, McGarry’s parents helped turn his bedroom into a monthly supper club called Eureka. Each month, he hosted his mother’s friends and soon won the title of “culinary prodigy(烹饪神童)”. Now, people pay $160(979 yuan) per person to eat at Eureka.

McGarry does not stick with just simple types of cuisine(菜肴). He likes creating interesting dishes. “I could take a carrot and raise it to this amazing level that you’d never think you’re eating a carrot,” he said. The New York Times described his meals as “creative enough to make an experienced chef inferior(逊色的).”

As for the future, McGarry dreams of being a Michelin-starred chef. He plans to open his own restaurant by 19 and make it, as he puts it, “the best restaurant in the world.”

   I was not having a good holiday. My family had decided to go back to the countryside in New Hampshire again. But I found it boring. It was even worse that I had to sleep in the same bed with my brother. However, this trip ended up being fun for me because I met a very special friend.

While I was walking in the countryside, I saw a man carrying a small brown bag. The man looked like a ghost in his white clothes. When he looked at me, I felt scared. I wanted to run away when the man spoke to me. “Hello. Beautiful day, isn’t it?” he said. The man talked a lot. I wasn’t listening very carefully because I was looking at his little bag. I wanted to know what was in it!

He saw me looking at the bag and he asked me if I would like to see what was inside of it. Out came a beautiful puppy. The brown puppy was small and only about two months old.

The man then asked me, “Would you like to keep this puppy?”

I had always wanted a puppy and now I had the chance. I thanked him, took the puppy and ran home. For the rest of that summer, I played with him all the time. And after the trip, I took him home. He is a friend to both my brother and me, a warm little ball of happiness in our lives.

I’ve always wanted to thank the man because he changed my life.

The gift has given me years of pleasure. And I never have boring family holidays anymore.

   Last week, I heard a voice that I hadn’t heard for a long time. I lost myself for a few seconds. I was very excited. You told me that you’d finished the test with a loud cheerful voice over the phone. The sound was so real that I could hardly believe that it was you on the other side of the phone. The sweet, immature(幼稚的) voice went so deep into my heart that it seemed like I had been dreaming of this call for a thousand years.

I still remember the times when you were young, you would always bring me a piece of palatable cookie I never ate before, you would always save money to buy snacks for me and you would always pass me tissue(面巾) when I cried secretly. Although you were still a child, you were more thoughtful than I could have imagined.

As time passed by, you grew from a child to a teenager, but the times of our talks became less and less. There came one day when I suddenly found that the boy who would always rush to me after class disappeared. Every time I looked into your eyes, I saw more fear instead of seeing love and kindness. I soon realized that I haven’t taken care of you for a long time. In order to discover something that we can communicate with, I’ve learned lots of things which you’re interested in, such as basketball, soccer and video games. Although I’m busy with my studies, as long as you call, I will give up anything to play with you, watch sports with you, play video games with you or do whatever you want.

I was so thankful that you started to talk to me and play with me again. Thanks for telling me every single secret that you have experienced in your school. I hope I can grow up with you.

   A new Metro train for Metro Line 6 has arrived at Changzhen Depot(车库) in Guangming District, marking the start of tests for the operation of Line 6, which will be put into use in June 2020.

Metro Line 6 has a major line in Phase I and an extension(延长) line in Phase II. Phase I runs 37 kilometers from Shenzhen North Station to Songgang Station, covering Bao’an, Longhua and Guangming districts. It has 20 stations, including six stations interchanging(换乘) with lines 4, 5, 11 and 13. With holding at least 2,502 passengers, the six-carriage train was designed to run at 100 kilometers per hour.

The extension line starts at Shenzhen North Station and runs southward to Shenzhen Science Museum. The 11.77-km extension line has seven stations, including five interchange stations with lines 1, 3, 7 and 9.

In another development, Metro Line 9’s extension line is expected to open before the end of the year. Once it is put into operation, a trip between Qianhai and Wenjin in Luohu District will take 44 minutes. The 10.8-km extension line is a major rail linking(连接) Qianhai, Nanyou and Shenzhen Technology Park with Luohu and Futian districts. It starts at Hongshuwan South Station and ends at Qianwan in Qianhai with 10 stations, including five interchange stations with lines 5, 11, 12, 13 and 15.

   In ancient China, the State of Wu made an attack on the State of Yue. The king of Wu 【小题1】(hurt) badly and soon died. His son Fu Chai became the new king. After a few years, Gou took hold a golden chance to fight 【小题10】 Wu and won the war in the end.
