This is a Chinese girl. Her name is Wu Yan. She is a new student. She is in Yuying Middle School. She is in Class One, Grade Two. Bill is an American boy. He is eleven. He is Yuying Middle School, too. Miss Li is their PE teacher. She is a good teacher.

Mr Brown got up late this morning. He was going to be late for work. It was raining hard and the streets were wet. He drove so fast that he didn’t see the red lights. He couldn’t stop his car and hit a car. An old man got out of the car and called out angrily, “What are you doing? How can you drive so fast?”

“I’m sorry, sir,” said Mr Brown, “I didn’t see the lights turn red.” Then he brought out a bottle of wine and gave it to the old man.

“It’s cold today, sir,” said Mr Brown, “Please drink a little, and then you’ll get warm.”

The old man drank some wine and became happy. He said, “I’m feeling much better now. Why don’t you drink any?”

“I can’t drink anything now, sir,” answered Mr Brown, “I’m waiting for the policeman. Only drunkards (酒鬼；醉鬼) cause accidents, you know!”

Wu Dong has a good friend. His name is Peter. He is from the USA. Wu Dong and Peter are in the same class. They go to school five days a week. They stay at home on Sundays and Saturdays. Peter likes China and Chinese food. He likes rice cakes very much. At school they play ping-pong ball after class.

My name is Tom. I like shopping very much, but I never go shopping on weekends. There are too many people in shop. I don’t like shopping with other people. It usually takes me much time to buy things because I never buy the first thing I see. I always look around other shops to find the same thing cheaper. I’m good at finding cheap things. I don’t like buying food in small shops or street markets. I think food in the supermarket is fresh and cheap.

Once upon a time, there was a farmer. One day, while he was working in the fields, he saw a hare run into a tree stump accidentally and die of a broken neck. The farmer took the hare home and cooked a delicious meal for himself.  That night he thought, I needn't work so hard. All I have to do is wait every day by the stump to pick up the hare that runs into it. So from then on he gave up farming, and stood by the tree stump waiting for the hare to come and run into it.  But from then on, he never saw another hare run into the tree stump.
